Ariana's Story

When 10-year old Ariana Kosok was given an assignment to write about an event that changed her life she knew just what story she wanted to tell.

GETTING ADOPTED

by: Ariana Kosok

Being adopted changed my life. Now I have an older sister and a mom and dad to care for me. I had to leave Guatemala and go to a whole new place.

My parents had wanted another child so they decided to adopt a child and that child was me. They signed a bunch of papers to say that you can adopt her and take her home from Guatemala. Before they picked me up I was taken care of from this lady named Maria Elena.

When it was time to pick me up it was Christmas Eve. My mom, dad, and my sister who was six years old flew to Guatemala. I was four months old when they adopted me.

When we got home my sister said I was the best Christmas present ever. My sister would always enjoy holding me. She would also say I was like a real live baby doll.

Now I am older and in the summer I go to "Mis Amigos Culture Camp." The camp is for adopted kids from Latin America. When I go I feel good because there are kids that are just like me who were adopted.

I am happy that I am adopted. Sometimes I feel that I don't belong. I am lucky to get a good education and have a wonderful family! That is how being adopted changed my life.
